She Lit The Stars
03:48
|
|||
falling slow down the deepest of wells
passing time cast the coldest of spells
Knew the words, but forgotten the tune
Until I caught the scent of honey and moon
I was going down
Like the lights on the farther shore
She was calling out
I couldn’t hold those lines no more
felt the flow drag me south by my charts
who dares to question where the moon pulls your heart
Deep at night, hear the lost melody
Soft as the river flows she sang it for me
And who was I
To drown those siren sounds
Tied to the mast
To find my ship all gone to ground
She lit the stars
silver and sparks
So near but so far
She lit the stars
Just when I lost my way
Whispered words she surrendered to sleep
All the things I couldn’t give her to keep
Never know what to expect from the dawn
The shape of shadows gonna trace when she’s gone
Never in my grasp
Always past my reach
All the lessons lost
That the masters couldn’t teach
She lit the stars
silver and sparks
So near but so far
She lit the stars
Just when I lost my way

Lions At Dusk
03:39
|
|||
(Part 1: In The Beginning)
Adam notes his debt to pay
Contemplates the end of the End of Days
Drawn cold to the edge of his world
Tethered tight to the last thread of a girl
Time turns tongue to stone at the taste
of bitter love and tempting is the fruit as it hangs
within the crushing reach of sinful verbs,
lions at dusk, and a tragic curse
Underneath the Tree of Life
Lies the rib bone rib that became a wife
Tricked by a snake and the deed was done
She grows old neath centuries of sun
Turning back to dust in the ash of the day
Waiting for a halo or a hint of the rain
Seven would follow and one would kill
But she’ll see them all again if the accident will
By the light of the moon
By the light of the moon
Lions in the dusk light
By the light of the moon
By the light the moon
Lions in the dusk light
(Part 2: The Revelation)
Closer yet to modern days
Tales of old days been filed away
The books have turned to dust and the dust to mold
And fable’s fire, forged now, growing cold
Now the riders of the light divine
Chariots on the northern lights’ good grace line
Signal fire that it’s time to go home
Excepting sinner’s impure souls
Cherubs hang by the light of the moon
wrapped in gold spun on heavenly looms
Angels of mercy follow close in the night
Dispensing glory and redeeming light
They make their way ‘cross the void and the dark
To teach believers of the chemistry of the stars
When they’re done the sky and earth will collide
To earn the ransom only heaven provides
By the light of the moon
By the light of the moon
Lions in the dusk light
By the light of the moon
By the light the moon
Lions in the dusk light

you remember, September
down by the dried-out creek
musta been bought sixteen, you were
already on a lucky streak
lord, you stole it, took the whole hit
that bottle of your daddy’s Crown
you’d scream at shell-shocked heavens
no lightning strike you down
sometimes I still wish I’d
followed your silver strikes
late calls from California
moonless nights on motorbikes
but I couldn’t cut score, no guts for
just got my fingers burned
but you torched that holy night down
virtues you never learned
Wish I had a way to tell you
what I thought I knew
ever since you burned down Eden
there's been a warrant out on you
keep saying what you want about
the pride before the fall
but it's not your fault
it's never been your fault
You're just running out of last calls
I got your last phone call
star sailor, lost at sea
rolled out of my warm bed
must be bout half past three
but this club’s dark, your car’s parked
half out on Marshall Street
my girl blue, say do you
still take your whiskeys neat
Wish I had a way to tell you
what I thought I knew
ever since you burned down Eden
there's been a warrant out on you
keep saying what you want about
the pride before the fall
but it's not your fault
it's never been your fault
You're just running out of last calls

I pour my coffee strong today
the tatters and frays of the
threads left to mend
where’s it end?
change the filters, change the strings
kettle still sings, is the burner still hot?
lost in thought
I’ll hear you on the radio
Don’t forget me when I go
Dishes piled up in the sink
breathe in, I blink
and the ten becomes two
hours flew
Said I’d call first chance I found
I chased down a sound
thought I heard, I got lost
Stars get crossed
With walls as sound as Jericho
Don’t forget me when I go
So when you ask if patience is the proof
Let’s sit and watch the fireflies from the roof
where’ve we gone, say, I don’t know
don’t forget me when I go
